Rugs can make or break a room. They can either add beauty or distort an appearance. They can also divide or bring together the rest of the room. It’s a make or break idea when it comes to accessorizing with area rugs.
Most of us embellish our rooms depending on what we have and where it fits. With rugs, we create any mood or look. Rugs are portable; come in various sizes and shapes and can also be made to specifications. Rugs give you warm comfort on the cold floor and cut down sound levels. While other elements like art works, furnishings, curtains and accessories add value to the look of a home, a rug has an important role to play in holding the different elements in a room together.
The main difference between area rugs and carpets is size. Generally, any piece less than 40 sq. ft in size is called a rug, while larger pieces are referred to as carpets. However, people often use the term rug to differentiate between area rugs and wall to wall carpeting.
Area rugs are made from different materials, where the price is mostly based. Wool and leather shag rugs are more expensive and synthetic ones are quite affordable. Other factors of the varying rates are the labor involved, designs and where the rug was manufactured. Persian rugs made in Iran are more costly than those made in other countries.
Handmade wool, 100% silk or blended wool and silk Oriental or Persian rugs sometimes last for centuries and become more valuable with age. And there are machine made rugs, where sophisticated designs are created on computerized looms at lower costs than similar patterns on handmade rugs.
There are various types of rugs, – including hand made / knotted rugs, hand tufted rugs, machine made rugs, modern rugs, contemporary rugs, traditional rugs, natural rugs, animal hid rugs, to name just a few. Determining which rug will work best in a room can be tricky. Before you invest in good-quality area rugs, you need to consider the following:
Consider the shape and size of the rug. Shapes are rectangular, round, square, oval or octagonal. There are also rugs called runners that are ideal for hallways.
Color and Pattern: Rugs are a visual treat that add much to the dcor of a room. With their impressive designs and refreshing colours, rugs have a definite, eye catching appeal.
Style: Colors, patterns, texture and design all put together give a rug its character which defines its style. It ranges from floral to contemporary to traditional area rugs. They can also reflect a season, or a particular theme.
Texture: The feel of a rug is a subjective matter which depends on you. This is the only feature which cannot be judged while shopping for a rug online.
Take all these factors into consideration when you are picking out a rug for your home or office.
